The new Club’s territory covered a large area in the eastern part ofthe Island of Singapore – including Katong, Serangoon, Geylang andChangi – thus the choice of name “Singapore East”.

Recruitment was limited to those who worked or lived in these areas.

PP Keki Medora of the mother club was tasked with organizing andformation of Singapore East. The first organizing committee meetingwas held on 21st December 1965 with 3 prospective members -David Foo, Dr Chuah Chong Yong and Chew Tian Ann.

The first meeting of the provisional club of Singapore East was heldat the Ambassador Hotel on 7th January 1966 with Dr WalterRintoul, then President of the mother club – in the Chair. 

The Club’s Chapter was granted by Rotary International on 11th April1966 and Charter Night was celebrated at the Ambassador Hotel on28th June 1966 with 23 charter members. During Rotary Year 1981 / 82, RI decreed that Singapore be classifiedas one Rotary Territory – thus allowing clubs to recruit membersregardless of their work place or residence.
